Every run of four years as a bolt of cloth. The warp is the seven days of the week; the weft is one thread per calendar week, top to bottom. Each run is a slub whose length is its mileage and whose color is its workout type — a big week deliberately overruns its column and bleeds into the days either side, which is what makes the seven columns read as one fabric rather than as seven charts. Weeks are ISO weeks (Monday–Sunday), so they do not line up with the academic-year weeks used elsewhere on this page.
Drag a finger across the field for that day’s log entry. 968 of 1138 runs left a note.
All four years collapsed onto a single calendar: horizontal is the day of the year, vertical is the distance, and dot size is the distance again. Threads join runs within three days of each other that were also close in distance. The subject is the voids — the summers at home, the taper weeks, the injuries. A ring around a dot marks a race, in the same coral used for races elsewhere on this page — dots without a ring are training runs. Distance is the vertical axis rather than duration because every run recorded a distance and only 798 of them recorded a time; plotting minutes would drop 340 runs without saying so.
